AeroDragons Rule & Regulations

 

TEAM ROLES 

 

CAPTAIN (Appointed)

  • Leads the AeroDragons during races, practices and other activities involving AeroDragon participation

  • Acts as spokesperson for the team during races, practices and other activities involving AeroDragon participation

  • Communicates pertinent information to the team as required

  • Establishes race and practice schedules for the team

  • Acts as liaison between any race officials

  • Works with Coach to develop AeroDragons training program

 

  COACH (Appointed)

  • Responsible for AeroDragons training program

  • Provides feedback to Captain regarding team and/or individual member performance (s)

  • Assists Captain in establishing race and practice schedules for the team

 

  CO-CAPTAIN (Appointed) 

  • Assists Captain in fulfilling her/his role for the team

  • Stands in for Captain whenever she/he is not available

  • Replaces Captain should she/he vacate her/his position

 

  PRESIDENT (Elected) 

  • Ensures the successful functioning of the club

  • Coordinates and plans the attainment of club's objectives

  • Acts as signatory for club's bank account(s)

  • Acts as liaison between AEA (Aerospace Employees Association) and club members

  • May also have the responsibility/role of Captain

  • Votes on actions taken by the club, such as obligation of funds for events, etc.

  • Must be a member in good standing

  • Term of office shall be 1 year commencing October 1 and ending September 30

 

  VICE-PRESIDENT (Elected) 

  • Shares and assists the President in all duties

  • Chairs meetings when President is not available

  • Acts as signatory for the club's bank account(s)

  • Replace the President should she/he vacate her/his position

  • Votes on actions taken by the club, such as obligation of funds for events, etc.

  • Must be a member in good standing

  • Term of office shall be 1 year commencing October 1 and ending September 30

 

  TREASURER (Elected) 

  • Manages the club's bank account(s)

  • Receives, disburses, and maintains records of funds for the AeroDragons

  • Withdraws funds from the club bank account(s) with approval by the President

  • Maintains a log of all transactions

  • Votes on actions taken by the club, such as obligation of funds for events, etc.

  • Must be a member in good standing

  • Term of office shall be 1 year commencing October 1 and ending September 30

 

  SECRETARY (Elected) 

  • Handles incoming and outgoing club correspondence

  • Arranges meetings

  • Prepares minutes of meetings and maintains records of meetings

  • Acts as signatory for the club's bank account(s)

  • Votes on actions taken by the club, such as obligation of funds for events, etc.

  • Term of office shall be 1 year commencing October 1 and ending September 30

 

  TEAM MEMBER 

  • Responsible for his/her safety and the safety of other team members

  • Follows instructions from Captain and Coach

  • Attends scheduled practices, races and/or events as required. Informs Captain if he/she is unable to attend

  • Arrives promptly to scheduled practices, races and/or events as required, in proper attire and with personal equipment ready for use

  • Maintains, as personal schedules allow, a fitness and conditioning routine during non-practice periods

  • Abides by all rules and regulations set forth in this document, club by-laws, as well as rules and regulations of other associations or organizations in whose races/events we participate

  • Makes suggestions to Captain or Coach to improve team performance

  • Aids/Encourages fellow team members to improve team performance

  • Communicates his/her needs to Captain or Coach if necessary

  • Enjoys himself/herself while participating in AeroDragon activities

 

MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY 

  • Team membership shall include the following membership categories:

    Category M1:  Aerospace Active Employees

    Category M2:  Aerospace Retired Employees, Active college, high school, junior high school students.

    Category A1:  Family/Friends of M1 and M2

    Category A2:  Air Force Employees

    Category A3:  Family/Friends of A2

 

  DUES 

  • Dues are required to cover the annual membership fee to the Southern California Dragon Boat Club (SCDBC) and also entry fees to local races (typically Long Beach) and one "away" race. Expenses may include meals and refreshments. Other "away" races may be funded depending on budgetary requirements and team members available to participate

  • Members whose dues are paid-in-full are eligible to participate in races

  • Dues structure for 2022 is as follows:

    Category M1 - Aerospace Active Employees: $50

    Category M2 - Aerospace Retired Employees: $50
    Category M2 - Active college, high school, junior high school students: $60
    Category A1 - First Responders (Police, Firefighters, Coast Guard, Etc.):  $60
    Category A1 - Family/Friends of M1 and M2: $150
    Category A2:  $150
    Category A3:  $150

  • Dues are payable at the start of the race season

  • Reimbursement is determined on an individual case basis and shall be approved by majority vote of the Officers

  • Each member must sign and have on file an SCDBC Waiver of Litigation form and an AeroDragons Waiver of Litigation form. An SCDBC Individual Membership Form must also be completed.

 

 PRACTICES 

  • Members and non-members must sign AeroDragon and SCDBC Waiver forms before participating in any club activities

  • Any equipment used during practice sessions and races provided by the SCDBC must be returned intact. This includes paddles and life vests. All paddlers are expected to help carry boat(s) into and out of the water and  ensure the dragon boat(s) are rinsed, properly dry docked and covered at the end of practice.

  • Any practice equipment provided by AeroDragons (paddles/life vests) must be rinsed with fresh water and returned to equipment bag after practice.

  • Practice sessions are typically one and a half hours

 

RACES SELECTION CRITERIA 

  • AeroDragons will do its best to ensure that all team members get the maximum number of races, however, teams will be selected to achieve the best possible result (win), especially in the finals

  • Coach and Captain have absolute authority for selecting team members for specific race heats

  • Criteria for race participation will be based on one or more of the following (each criterion carries equal weight in importance)

    Ability & Performance
    Attitude & Team Cohesion
    Availability
    Commitment
    Experience & Versatility
    Membership Status
    Overall Fitness
    Practice Attendance
    Race Experience
    Strategy
    Weight (to properly balance boat)

  • Non-AeroDragons shall only participate in race heats when team members are unavailable or unwilling to participate

 

 SAFETY 

  • Each race or practice participant MUST sign and submit SCDBC and AeroDragon Waiver of Liability  forms prior to participation in any practice session or race. Forms are available from the Captain, or downloaded through the AeroDragons website (www.aerodragons.org)

  • Personal Flotation Devices (PFD) will be provided for practices and races. Each team member MUST wear a PFD while in the boat for all practices and races

  • Irresponsible or dangerous behavior will not be tolerated. Anyone acting in an unsafe manner may be banned from further use of the dragon boat

  • Practices and races may be cancelled due to hazardous or inclement weather or marine conditions. AeroDragons Coach and/or Captain will be responsible for the suspension or cancellation of practices due to hazardous weather or marine conditions

  • Dragon boating may involve risks, dangers and hazards. Boats may have the potential to capsize or collide. Team members and guests must be made aware that by participating in this sport, they are assuming risks associated with dragon boating

  • Team members should report unsafe behavior to Captain and/or Coach for resolution
