***1/4 - PRACTICE TOMORROW (SAT 1/5) HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO RAIN TONIGHT AND THROUGH THE WEEKEND. PRACTICE RESUMES SAT 1/12 (WEATHER PERMITTING) ***

LAND TRAINING - NOW is the time to lose those extra calories from the holidays! 3 sets of 30 sit-ups, 30 push-ups, 30 squats, 30 leg raises - 3 times a week . . .
LONG BEACH LOCAL RACE is SUN April 27 - those of you NOT going to Boracay will "represent" at this race!
DO NOT PARK ON APPIAN WAY. Please park in the metered parking or the Boy Scout lot south of 2nd Street bridge.
REMEMBER in case of rain/sewage spill or other extenuating circumstance, find out status of practice by calling my cell phone at (310) 749-3592 on day of practice for a recorded message . .

Hi Folks ---
Yes, next to Long Beach and Las Vegas, Boracay was the most popular race for which you voted.
I have 2 travel agencies looking at fares which are running $1060 RT LAX to Boracay (thru Manila). Start saving your pennies!
Tentative leaving Apr 23 arriving Apr 25 (we lose a day going) & being tourists on Panay before heading for Boracay on Apr 30. There are Festivals in both Pandan & San Jose the last weekend of April & we've been asked to do a "demonstration" as part of the San Jose "Binirayan" Festival (not sure what that means) - they are all excited that a dragon boat team from the United States will be attending.
If we stay in Pandan, our family house is big enough for all of us (sharing rooms) for free - still researching hotels in the area. In San Jose, hotels run 3000 pesos ($65/night) - 4 to a room. A van will run us 3000 pesos a day. These are VERY RURAL communities - remember, this is a 3rd world country (no flush toilets, etc.).
For now, please let us know your interest in this race so we can start planning!

NO PRACTICES for the rest of the year. NEXT PRACTICE will be SAT January 5th.
RACE SCHEDULE FOR 2008 will be as follows (based on popular vote). Please keep these dates on your 2008 calendars. If you have expressed interest in the Long Beach All-Star Team --- ADD the Arizona Dragon Boat Festival on March 29 & 30:
Boracay Dragon Boat Races - May 1-4: tentative travel dates will be April 23rd depart LAX/ sightseeing and festivals April 25-30/ festival in Boracay May 1-4 (more details will follow in an Evite)
Las Vegas Dragon Boat Festival - Tentative May (UNLESS this conflicts with the Local Races - Long Beach is priority)NO PRACTICES for the rest of the year. NEXT PRACTICE will be SAT January 5th.

WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF establishing a team membership with Lokahi Outrigger Club (the black-hulled outriggers). Some of us have already been cross-training with Tony and his paddlers. If you are interested, we will be practicing with them on a "rotation" basis AND participating in some of the
ir LOCAL outrigger races. A condition of our ability to practice with them is that we participate in their races --- it will provide great cross-training for us! PLEASE let us know if you want to be included in the rotation schedule (they practice SAT's at 7:30AM).PICTURES from the 2007 Naples Boat Parade from Iris, Josh and me (including some embarrassing video of yours truly - thanks IRIS) follow --- we all had a great time dressed as Christmas gifts under a brightly lit tree. Dr. Chen thought our boat really looked great . . .

GUYS -
THANKS to Stephanie for the bag of guavas - they made for a nice after-practice snack for us!
NEW PRACTICE SITE NEXT SAT at Cabrillo Beach Youth Waterfront Sports Center at 3000 Shoshonean Road in San Pedro. It's a nice secluded area with lots of parking right on the water. See map on this Evite or on our website at www.aerodragons.org for details. Call/E-mail me if you have questions!
SAD NEWS - Leon, Jason and Karen Cheng of LARD (Los Angeles Racing Dragons) lost their father this last week. Also, their nephew, Arthur Yeh, as he was driving home from the hospital, was involved in a fatal car accident. Arthur is also the brother of Megan Yeh who is captain of the UCI dragon boat team. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers!
GOOD LUCK to Lorie Chan who will be moving to Lompoc (central California) next weekend to start her new job --- she has promised to visit us at least once a month for dragon boat practice!
REMINDER THAT PRACTICE STARTS AT 9AM --- Practice this SAT 12/8 @ 9AM - we are limited to 1 1/2 hour practices - we'll be done by 11A.
