AeroDragons and Friends ---
Just a quick message to update the rest of the team on our trip to the ALCAN Dragon Boat Festival and to congratulate the Vancouver crew on a job well done!
AeroDragons made it to the Recreational A Division Finals, finishing 8th with a time of 2:15.460 - this is our second-fastest time ever in a Mixed division (we did a 2:14.52 last year in San Francisco . . .) - we finished 40th overall out of a field of 165 teams --- NOT BAD for our first time (Race results are posted on our website - www.aerodragons.org)! The winning team - False Creek Mixed A won with a time of 1:56.060 ---
THANK YOU to the Vancouver crew, again we came together quickly and effortlessly to blend in as one. Thanks to Electric Dragons Paul, Audrey and Crystal, Gila Dragons Naomi and Mitzi, and Thunder Dragon Barry for paddling with us! SPECIAL THANKS to Alain from Jetstart for steering us true and for all his support; to Sophon from Jetstart for calling our last race . . . to Swordfish and Captain Edwin Chan for hosting us.
Many fond memories on this trip including . . .
Ali callling me at 11P Wed night before our flight . . . "I can't find my passport! . . " - but made it to Vancouver in time for races!
. . . anyone see Renal? . . .
Vince getting both Birthday cake AND Anniversary cake.
Great food and broken eardrums (from the wedding next door) at Floata's Seafood.
Shopping frenzy at Pogue Sporting Goods.
It's sooooooo cooooold . . .

Vancouver Crew ---
Attached is the Vancouver Trip Doc and ALCAN Festival Map. Please read through, make sure you contact me whenever you get in to the hotel. Unfortunately, the race schedule is still not available so we don't know when our first race is - I'll pass on the info when it's received!
IMPORTANT HIGHLIGHTS
Bring your RAIN GEAR. Showers and mid- to upper-60's are still in the forecast.
FRIDAY PRACTICE is at 3:30P. I'm trying to get 2 hours so that Alain (Jetstart) can help us out the 2nd hour of practice. We'll leave from the hotel at about 3P (15 minute walk).
BREAKFAST SAT right now looks like it'll be at 7A at Ricky's All Day Grill, UNLESS our first race is later in the morning. With 200 teams, expect them to start right at 8A.
LORIE will be collecting $25 CAD from each of you (including significant others/guests) - $5 for our host team Swordfish and $20 for dinner on SAT night at Floata's.
GENDER RACES are probably not going to happen for the women. Some teams are looking for a few MEN.
Everyone have a safe trip and if I don't see you WED night for practice, see you up there!

VANCOUVER CREW ---
Just some quick updates/reminders:
CELL PHONES - Please make sure to check with your cell phone providers to make sure you're able to use your phones in Canada. You may need to upgrade your coverage for the days you are out of the country!
IMPORTANT PLACE FOR VANCOUVER AERODRAGONS - a satellite map of important places for us to to help familiarize ourselves with the Vancouver area - (you don't have to install the 3D map application if it asks you to, to see the map) . . . http://local.live.com/?v=2&cid=65D1F224E826EE37!101&encType=1

PADDLES & VESTS - Be prepared to carry your own paddle and/or vest with you to Vancouver. We will not be packing the paddles and vests in one bag. If you prefer, the race organizers will have paddles and life vests available for you to use there . . .
BUTT PADS - remember that butt pads that are more than 1/2" in thickness will NOT be allowed on the boats.
GENDER RACES - So far, we don't have many men interested in racing. Will see if we have enough ladies to team with another Canadian team for the women's races.
PASSPORTS (need I say more?)
FRIDAY PRACTICE - I'm trying to arrange a 3PM practice for 1 hour at False Creek. I think I counted 10 of you that will be available - can you please let me know if you can make a 3PM practice on Friday.
RACING JERSEYS - for those of you who need racing jerseys, I'm trying to get an order filled before we leave. We will definitely have t-shirts available. Those of you who do not have any AeroDragon-wear, I'm OK with you buying something maroon/dark red that will blend in with the boat if you're not comfortable racing in a t-shirt. You may want to bring extra t-shirts if you want to trade with the other teams . . .
WEATHER - the latest Accuweather extended forecast predicts SHOWERS and 18C/65F for SAT and CLOUDY and 20C/68F for SUN. Bring rain gear if you have it!
That's it for now - keep up with your land training - should have a trip doc by next weekend for you!
